Mission Statement:
It is our philosophy that any youth who participates in Janesville Youth Wrestling will have the opportunity to enhance and develop, not only wrestling skills, but also his or her social skills. Competitive wrestling offers each individual the chance to enjoy the daily interaction with fellow wrestlers and properly trained coaches.
Competitive sport will introduce youth to many values they will carry with them throughout their lives. It is our desire to teach skills, values, and offer character building traits that will not emphasize that you “win at all costs”. Often these ideals are fostered by over zealous parents and coaches. Our program will not only help develop children to understand that success often includes winning, but ultimately means committing to learn to become a team player, to become physically and mentally sound, and be a part of competition that stresses improvement and fun as an end goal. Being able to compete is something all individuals must learn, to be able to succeed in life.
We will (at all times) promote to wrestlers, coaches, parents and volunteers the following:
- Proper adherence to rules
- Respect for fellow wrestlers, coaches, parents, and spectators
- Modesty in victory
- Dignity in defeat. How we act in defeat is the most important lesson in sports!
- Teaching skill development
- Enhancement of physical fitness and endurance
- Sportsmanship on and off the mat
- Academics come before wrestling
- Youth wrestling will be fun for all
